Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the most difficult decisions any pet owner will face. At Grand Ave. Pet Hospital, we are here to support you with compassion, understanding, and expert guidance to help make this process as peaceful and dignified as possible.
How Do You Know It’s Time?
Determining when euthanasia is the most humane choice can be challenging. Consider the following questions to help evaluate your pet’s quality of life:
✔️ Is your pet still eating regularly?
✔️ Are they comfortable, or do they seem to be in pain?
✔️ Do they still enjoy their favorite activities?
Only you know your pet best. If you’re unsure, we encourage you to consult with our veterinary team to discuss your pet’s health and any available options to improve their comfort before making a decision.
What to Expect During the Procedure
We strive to make the euthanasia process as peaceful as possible for both pets and their families.
Step 1: Preparation & Consent
- You will be asked to sign a consent form before the procedure begins.
- If you wish to be present, we will ensure a calm and private space for you and your pet.
- An intravenous catheter will be placed to allow for a smooth and painless transition.
Step 2: Sedation & Euthanasia
- If needed, a sedative will be administered to keep your pet relaxed and comfortable.
- The euthanasia solution is a fast-acting anesthetic that allows your pet to pass peacefully.
- You are welcome to stay with your pet throughout the process and take time for final goodbyes.
Step 3: Aftercare Options
Following euthanasia, we offer several aftercare options through Gateway Pet Memorial:
🕊️ Communal Cremation – Your pet’s remains will be respectfully cremated with others.
🕊️ Private Cremation – Your pet will be cremated individually, and their remains returned in an urn of your choice.
🕊️ Burial in a Pet Cemetery – Available through Gateway Pet Memorial.
🕊️ Keepsakes – Locks of fur or paw impressions can be arranged upon request.
